Hello Friends,
What to put in the top 5. That is the question.
I’m going to use my ratings in BoardGameGeek (good app for tracking games you play, own, or want) to help with what I’ve rated the highest.
Here it is:
Heat: Pedal to the Metal: I’m not an F1 watcher and it isn’t necessary to love this game. The deck building aspect of this game is focused on your engine. Its unique racing style gameplay is fun, typically keeps very close (even if you spin-out at some point) and is a nice mix of luck and skill.

The Quacks of Quedlinburg: There is something truly magical about getting to build a bag full of chips, knowing your odds but never knowing what you’ll actually get until you draw. We play with the Herb Witches expansion (6 Pumpkins added) and love it. There are enough chip options to make it so strategies usually vary and the winner isn’t usually too obvious until later in the rounds. Highly recommend it.

Clank!: A Deck Building Game: This game mixes deck building with movement on a dungeon board to gather points for an eventual escape. As a conservative player I have a tough time not being first out but it’s still exciting to dive and come up. I’ve heard good things about the campaign version of this game but haven’t yet tried it.

Acquire: Some similarities to Monopoly in that asset appreciation and eventual net worth is the goal. This game combines tile laying with stock buying in hotel franchises to create opportunities for some to prosper and others to plateau. I’ve played it over a dozen times and it still gets exciting.

Pass The Pigs: I’ve written about this game before. It’s a game that is 95% luck but is fast to play and a fun warm up. We play that you need to hit 100 on the nose and that one rebuttal turn is allowed for everyone after the first person hits it. When the pigs are hot, it’s going to be a good day.

Honorable Mentions: Wingspan (board-building and bird-watching), La Boca (3D partner Tetris), Fire Tower (frenemy fire fighting), Cascadia (tile-laying and point scoring)
